Joining The Impact

I think the new mantra in my life should be "Better Late Than Never".

Proposition 8 - Who cares. Seriously.

I, like many people (I suspect) didn't care much or give much thought to Proposition 8. Why? I don't live in California and I'm not dating anyone I would consider marrying. And then, as best said by one of my friends after I asked him when he became a joiner "I woke up".

I realized that gay marriage is not about where you currently live or who you're currently dating. It's about hope. And didn't we, as a Country, just prove we are about hope? Didn't we, as a Country, just vote for hope? Yes, we did!

I hope that someday, wherever my journey takes me that I fall madly, deeply in love with someone who I want to spend the rest of my life with. I hope that my gay brothers and sisters are allowed to take the simplest but most important symbolic action to express this kind of love to the world.

I find it hard to understand why those who disagree with gay marriage, even care in the first place. What's it to you? How is it hurting you? Actually - don't answer that, because I don't care.

I care about what I can do to further promote the necessity of providing this simplest, basic right to everyone in the United States. Regardless of my affectional orientation - I deserve the right to get married to the person of my choosing.

Tomorrow, for the first time in my life, I will attend a protest. Not because all my friends are going (although it does make it easier!) but because I believe deep down inside me, where my hopeful heart resides, that this is the right thing to do.
